Civil Rights

“The time is always right to do what is right.”
– Martin Luther King, Jr.

Every child, every person deserves to be treated with dignity and respect for the person they are and the gifts they bring into this world. The law should always begin with this premise.

Iowa has a long and rich history of standing up for civil rights and fighting against discrimination. Being decades ahead of the curve gives Iowa a place in the history books but also an important responsibility. We must continue to be a beacon that demands all people be treated equally under the law and that justice should always ensure every person is treated fairly.

I will always stand on the right side of history with people who have been marginalized and treated unfairly. I will stand up for the rights of people who are African American, Latino, women, immigrant, LGBTQ+, Jewish, Muslim, other minority faiths including no faith, and those with disabilities.
